International Women's Day Celebrations – Weeklong Activities

Greeninitiatives 绿色倡议 2022-04-13

Women of the world want and deserve an equal future free from stigma, stereotypes, and violence; a future that is sustainable, peaceful, with equal rights and opportunities for all.

To get us there, the world needs women at every table where decisions are being made.

Why International Women's Day (IWD)

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Marked annually on March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to:

  • celebrate women's achievements

  • raise awareness about women's equality

  • lobby for accelerated gender parity

  • fundraise for female-focused charities

With the COVID-19 pandemic still ravaging countries across the world, this year’s IWD is even more important with women at the front lines of the crisis.

Women are leading the fight as health care workers, caregivers, innovators, community organizers, and as some of the most exemplary and effective national leaders in combating the pandemic.

Why is IWD Important for Green Initiatives?

As a leading social enterprise based in China focusing on social and environmental issues, IWD is all the more important for us since women comprise over 80% of all of our work communication, engagement, and partnership in the social impact space.

IWD EVENT SERIES SPONSORS

In partnership with the Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai, we screen La Bolduc, a Canadian drama film - a biopic of Quebec folk singer Mary Rose-Anna Bolduc, also know known as Madame Bolduc. During the peak of her popularity in the 1930s, she was known as the Queen of Canadian Folk Singers.
In the wake of the economic crisis of the 20-30s and the first glimpses of the beginning of the fight for woman's rights, the movie follows her roaring career, a difficult marriage, and the touching relationship she had with her eldest daughter, Denise.
